The credit card, especially the Visa card, is a widely used payment instrument. Unlike direct debit, there is no direct access to the bank account. Instead, the cardholder is granted a credit limit that they can use. The Visa card enables cashless payments at millions of retailers worldwide. It also offers protective mechanisms such as buyer protection, which comes into effect in the event of unauthorized transactions or defects in purchased goods.

Both payment methods have their individual advantages, but there are also gmx email list situations where a combination of these options can make sense. One example is the ability to pay direct debits using a credit card, known as "direct debit". Here, the direct debit is debited from the customer's credit card rather than from their bank account. This approach combines the convenience of direct debit with the additional security mechanisms and bonus programs that credit cards offer.

How does direct debit work?
Direct debit, also known as "direct debit", is a convenient and efficient method of payment processing that is particularly suitable for recurring payments. The direct debit process essentially involves three parties: the payer (debtor), the payee (creditor) and the banks involved.

Authorization of the payer: In order for a direct debit to be carried out, the payer must give the payee a written or electronic authorization. This authorizes the creditor to debit the amount due from his bank account. The authorization can apply to one-off transactions or regular payments.
Advance notice from the payee: Before debiting the amount, the payee is obliged to send the payer an advance notice. This contains information about the time and the exact amount of the upcoming direct debit. This advance notice enables the payer to ensure that his account has sufficient funds at the time of the debit.
Implementation of the direct debit: After the advance notice has been given and the payer's consent has been obtained, the payee can debit the amount due from their bank account. This usually happens automatically and electronically. The amount is credited to the payee's account and the transaction is thus completed.
