Netflix and its fight against shared accounts
The change comes as the company battles account sharing. Netflix blames subscribers who share their account passwords with friends and family for some of its problems and faces stiff competition from HBO Max and Disney+.
The streaming company estimates that nearly 100 million households have shared accounts and plans to iceland number data address this in 2023, it said.
In Peru and Chile, a new measure has been activated: if the platform detects that you access your account from different connections, it will charge extra. Due to the loss of subscribers, Netflix does not want there to be any more shared accounts.
Netflix unveils its definitive ad-supported plan : it will cost less than 6 euros and will be available in November. This plan will be called "Basic with ads" and will be the platform's most affordable: in Spain it will cost 5.49 euros per month (6.99 dollars).
For the first time in eleven years, Netflix has seen a decline in its number of subscribers.
Between January and March 2022, Netflix lost around 200,000 paying subscribers . After two consecutive quarters of customer losses, it is back on the rise in the third quarter thanks to hits like Stranger Things 4 and Dahmer. Between July and September, it grew by 4.5%.
